This post is an update on our progress in establishing the Kolbe Mission recovery home.
As you know, the Diocese of Phoenix contributed 40 acres of property in Valle, Arizona to the Kolbe Mission. While this property has many wonderful qualities, it also has its challenges. The water survey came back negative, but we found we could truck water into the facility. The lack of electricity on the property is solved using a generator. But, we have run into a roadblock. The cost to create reliable roads into the facility is proving to be cost prohibitive.
While we are not giving up on the Valle option, we are now investigating other properties. We are looking at properties in southern Arizona where the weather is friendlier – we think the trade-off of hot summers for cold, snowy, and wet winters is preferable. We would like to find a property that has water and electricity already established, and existing housing would be a plus.
We have identified quite a few potential properties, but the search is academic until we get a significant financial contribution to purchase a property.
In the meantime, while we are still without a facility, we are pursuing our mission by working with addicts that have come to us to us for help. We are mentoring 6 men, providing them with support, transportation, and prayers.
We are extremely grateful for all of our supporters who have contributed to the Kolbe Mission. We currently have about $35K in our account. This will be used for expenses in obtaining the property, and in our ongoing help with addicts. Your continued prayers and financial support are greatly appreciated.
St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!
I think you all have made a wise decision to get a more suitable land site to begin with and with a suitable building already on it sounds very practical. Iām keeping up my prayers for the project.šā¤ļøš
