About Kolbe Mission

A Catholic home for healing and recovery

Establishing Arizona's first Catholic addiction recovery home, grounded in faith, fellowship, and the witness of St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Our Mission

A Catholic home for healing and recovery

Our mission is to establish a Catholic Addiction Recovery Home in the Diocese of Phoenix — the fifth-largest city in the United States, and one without a Catholic substance abuse rehabilitation home.

Kolbe Mission will be a place where those suffering from addiction can find healing through a 12-step recovery program which includes prayer, the sacraments, meaningful work, fellowship, and recreation. All faiths are welcome. There will be no charge for services provided.

The four primary pillars

I

Walking with Jesus

Residents will take part in the sacraments, daily prayer, both individual and in common, growing in the virtues of temperance, fortitude, and prudence.

II

Mental Health Care

Staff trained in 12-step recovery programs and trauma-informed care, incorporating them into the program for each resident.

III

Work

Residents will prepare and clean facilities, maintain the home and property, and produce products for use and for sale.

IV

Fellowship and Recreation

Community and healing go hand in hand. Recreation, games, exercise, and socializing are essential to the program.

Who We Are

Faithful people called to serve

Kolbe Mission was founded by a group of Catholic laypeople and clergy who believe that the Church has a unique and irreplaceable role in accompanying those suffering from addiction. We bring together pastoral care, clinical expertise, and a deep reverence for the dignity of every person.

Our team includes addiction counselors, spiritual directors, volunteers, and donors united by a shared conviction: that recovery rooted in faith, community, and the sacraments is not only possible, but transformative. We are grateful for the support of the Diocese of Phoenix and our growing network of Catholic parishes across Arizona.

Kevin Starrs
Vice-President

Kevin has dedicated over 40 years to serving at-risk youth and adults through roles in the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix in Prison Ministry, the City of Chandler, and the East Valley Boys & Girls Club. His work has consistently focused on outreach, mentorship, and long-term support for vulnerable populations across both civic and faith-based settings. A devoted Catholic, he attributes his personal healing and recovery to his relationship with Christ, the Church, and the sacraments, which continues to shape his ministry and service to others.

Nathan Potter
Development Director

As a Catholic and someone who has personally experienced the realities of alcoholism, I am deeply committed to the mission of hope, healing, and rebuilding lives through Christ-centered recovery. I bring both professional development experience and a personal understanding of recovery to help connect others to this life-changing work.
